Prairie Challenge Dutch Oven Cook-off 50th Anniversary Edition

Celebrate half a century of hometown spirit at the Prairie Challenge Dutch Oven Cook-off on Friday, July 3, 2026, during La Pine Frontier Days!

Teams of 2–3 members will prepare authentic prairie and frontier-style recipes entirely in traditional Dutch ovens. Compete in Main Dish, Side Dish, or Dessert categories (or all three). Dishes must be large enough for judging samples plus 30+ public tasting portions.

Prizes

  • 1st Place: $100 per category
  • 2nd Place: $50 per category
  • 3rd Place: Ribbon
  • People’s Choice: $50 per dish category

Special awards will also be given for the most creatively decorated cook site and most authentic recipes.

Schedule

  • Setup begins: 11:00 AM
  • Cooking starts: 1:00 PM
  • Dishes presented to judges: 5:00 PM
  • People’s Choice tasting: 5:30 PM
  • Awards ceremony: 6:30 PM

Entrants are encouraged to dress in pioneer or western attire and decorate their 10×10 cook sites to match the frontier theme. Teams will share cooking techniques and tips with spectators throughout the day.

This is more than a competition — it’s a living history demonstration of Dutch oven cooking the way our forefathers did it on the prairie!
